About Public Works
Public Works is the heart of every community and the very
foundation of our daily existence. In Abingdon the Public Works
Department provides support for our residents in five major areas:

Engineering, inspection and administration functions including a geographic
information system.
|
Residential solid waste and recycling collection and disposal.
|

GIS involves the detailed
mapping of the Town, including all utilities and structures.
This information is vital to
the Town and literally used by all other departments.
|
Maintenance of streets, highways including storm drains, sidewalks,
and adjacent public areas.
|

Maintenance of a
regional sanitary sewer collection system. Operation of a 4.95 million
gallon per day (MGD)
state of the art regional wastewater treatment and disposal facility.
|
|
The objective of the Abingdon Public Works Department is
to effectively, economically, and expeditiously provide these services to
the residents of Abingdon.
To meet this objective, the Public Works Department seeks
to:
- deliver services in a competent and courteous manner
