Application for Employment 
It is the responsibility of the Safety department to provide a safe workplace for the employees of the Town of Abingdon. This responsibility calls for a diverse background in safety with each department having its different and special problems. The safety responsibility of the town covers the Coomes Recreation Center, the Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Streets Department, the Sewer Maintenance Department, the Volunteer Fire Department, and the Abingdon Police Department. It is our goal to reduce employee exposure to accident situations and prevent those accidents from causing unnecessary pain and suffering of our employees. This goal will be accomplished through training and active participation of our Safety Committee. This committee is comprised of employees from each department and they will assist the Safety Manager in locating dangerous situations and taking the necessary precautions to prevent these situations from causing accidents. The Human Resources function for the new millennium is to obtain the best qualified employees to fill whatever opening that may come available and to keep employees informed on all issues that may affect their well being. The Town of Abingdon must be in compliance with all laws concerning employment practices and procedures and maintain records that would document the fact that these procedures are being carried out. It will be the responsibility of the Human Resources Department to obtain the necessary training that will keep the Town up to date on changes to existing regulations and any new regulations that will affect the Human Resources function in the near future. |
