The Abingdon Town Council voted unanimously to establish the Go Green Committee as a part of the effort to Go Green in Abingdon. The committee was formed and had its first meeting on Friday, September 26, 2008. The committee voted to develop a website dedicated to the effort in order to keep interested parties informed and communicating on ways to improve the effort. A group has also been formed online for participation in the Abingdon Green Initiative and can be viewed through this website.

The members of the Go Green Committee include Town of Abingdon employees, the Town Manager, one Town Council Member, and four private citizens.
